A RARE CASE REPORT: PEPPERMINT OIL INTOXICATION

 ABSTRACT:

Background: Peppermint oil is easily available in herbal products stores. It is used as analgesic in alternative medicine espacially in headache and toothache. We report a case of peppermint oil intake for suicide.

Case Report: A thirty-year- old woman applied to emergency with complaints of nausea and weakness after taking peppermint oil for suicide. She was hospitalisied in intensive care unit for follow-up. After 2-day follow-up no complication was observed, then she was discharged from hospital.

Conclusion: Herbals are easily available on markets. Their side-effects and toxic  effects are not well-known. We reported a rare case to contribute knowledge about results of mild amount of peppermint oil ingestion.
